Outings and Activities
Active
Fun and Fit – Team members lead participants in a variety of exercises that work different muscle groups, balance, and strength.
Benefits: Physical fitness, socialization and fun!
Chair Stretching and Chair Zumba – Morning and afternoon participants will have some chair stretches to start their day and chair zumba to pump up their energy in the afternoon
Creative
Art – Participants use mediums such as pastels, charcoals, watercolors, and acrylic paints to create art.
Benefits: Art has been proven to relive stress and put people in a calmer state. Art also exercises motor skills and creativity.
Beading – Participants are encouraged to create unique pieces of jewelry using beads.
Benefits: Participants exercise creativity and expression, while working fine motor skills. Many participants enjoy giving the pieces they make to family and friends.
Card Making – Participants use stamps, ribbon, glitter, etc. to make beautiful and unique greeting cards. We pass them out on birthdays, special events, and when people just need a smile.
Benefits: Participants exercise creativity and expression, while working fine motor skills. Many participants enjoy giving the pieces they make to family and friends.
Crafting – Crafting Club meets once per week and offers a different craft project each time.
Benefits: Crafting works motor skills with a focus on hand-eye coordination and sparks creativity, individuality and expression. Participants gain a feeling of accomplishment after creating something with their hands.
Pottery – Participants work with clay to create unique pieces of art.
Benefits: Working with the different textures and surfaces of the clay can be therapeutic for participants.
Scrapbooking – Participants create scrapbook pages using photographs taken at the center.
Benefits: By looking through photos, participants are reminded of activities that they have been involved in. Some participants may be experiencing memory loss and looking at photos helps them to recall the fun they have at the center. Scrapbooking promotes creativity and design. It is a social activity.
Games
Cards/Table Games – Participants enjoy playing cards, dominoes, board games etc.
Benefits: These leisure games promote healthy competition and socialization, while encouraging participants to use strategy.
Bingo – Participants play bingo for an assortment of prizes.
Benefits: BINGO is a social game. There is no skill involved. Participants enjoy playing for prizes and it’s a way to encourage fun and laughter.
Crosswords/Puzzles – Participants give the answers to clues in order complete a crossword puzzle. Jigsaw puzzles are also available throughout the center.
Benefits: Crosswords and puzzles engage the brain and promote healthy aging.
Group Games – Participants join in a group setting of activities, such as Sorry Board Game, Candyland Game, and I Spy Games.
Benefits: Participants use critical thinking and problem solving while being able to socialize with their peers.

Science/Exploration Club – Participants explore the world of science through experiments and hands-on activities.

Book Club – Participants enjoy diving into an exciting world of literature with adventure, mystery, and science fiction.
What Would You Thumball – Participants have icebreaker questions on a ball and pass it around to their peers and socialize on the topic of choice.
Memory Enrichment – A class designed by Dr. Robert Winningham- a psychologist at Western Oregon University, who created a set of activities to stimulate cognitive functioning.
Benefits: The exercises and activities in this class promote healthy brain aging and have been proven to slow memory loss. Participants are encouraged to use reasoning and critical thinking, which benefit cognition.
Karaoke – Participants enjoy singing a variety of karaoke songs of their choice.
Social Circle – Participants meet for Social Circle multiple times a week and enjoy the conversations that take place during this club. The Eastside Explorers program promotes socialization and the formation of new friendships.
Tea Time/Mindfulness Therapy – Participants gather together to complete breathing exercises and sample different types of tea.
Benefits: Participants are encouraged to use their senses to describe what they see, taste, smell and feel while they sip the tea. This promotes mindfulness and can often evoke memories and feelings.

Creative Fiction Club – Participants use photos, images, or Rory’s Story Cubes to create a story. One participant will examine an image (or roll story dice) and create a part to the story. The next participant in line will pick up where the last person left off. A team member/volunteer will record the story on the whiteboard and read it when aloud when completed.
Benefits: Promotes creativity and cognitive functioning. Encourages team building and socialization. Participants also find this club quite humorous and laughter is usually inevitable.
